Football pitch sizes in England are determined by the age group playing on them. The FA defines different formats to suit the number of players and their physical development.

5v5 (U7–U8)

The smallest format, designed for young children. Pitch size is approximately 36.5m × 27.5m, with smaller goals. These are typically marked on a shared field — several 5v5 pitches can fit in the space of one full-size pitch.

7v7 (U9–U10)

Slightly larger at approximately 54.8m × 36.5m. Still using smaller goals. This is the format most commonly used in school and club mini-soccer setups.

9v9 (U11–U12)

A transitional format at approximately 73.1m × 45.7m, with full-size goals. This bridges the gap between small-sided and full-size football.

11v11 (U13 and above)

Full-size pitch at 90–120m × 45–90m, per IFAB laws. The standard for adult, youth, and most competitive football. Within this range, exact dimensions depend on the level of play and available space.

Why it matters

If you run a school or club with multiple age groups, you'll need different layouts on the same field. GPS marking makes this straightforward — we store each layout and can switch between them on the same visit, or mark multiple pitches on one field.

Always confirm the exact dimensions you need with your league or governing body before booking. We mark to your specification — the dimensions above are general guidance, not a substitute for your competition rules.
